You did a wonderful job synthesizing the critical aspects of effective comprehension instruction. I am a national literacy consultant working with teachers across the country on teaching comprehension in this way. I would love to hear about how this is going for you. I just started a blogging about my work with teachers, and intend to highlight examples of this work in classrooms.

Anne,
What an amazing job you have done blogging about and summarizing this conference! I wasn't able to listen to Julie or Elin Oliver Keane but you have described it well enough that I feel I was there at that session.
And it was WONDERFUL to have the opportunity to meet you at TRLD - combining names with faces is great. Blogging connects us in new ways and allows me to learn from some experts in the field.
Thank you for your posts!

I love this book too. It "transformed" my way of thinking about teachig reading, particularly for older students. It is a book I highly recommend to fellow library media specialists who embark on the journey to become nationally board certified. One of the entries is called "literature enrichment" and many confuse it with a traditional book talk. Reading this book and then reading the guidelines for that portfolio always helps them rethink what is required. I'd be willing to say many who read it have a paradigm shift in the thinking process for teaching reading.
