Anne,
I am excited to read how you are going to set up blogging with an entire class. I am going to try that with my two groups of 7th graders. I will be looking at your past posts. Maybe our classes will be able to post back & forth to each other. Good luck

Hi Frank,

I do read every blog entry but I do not grade them as I view the blogging as the time to practice the process of writing. The conversations that you have in class with the students will guide you and actually I have found that we become a team in assessing the work. It is exciting. I have found that the kids really care about their writing more. The audience factor has a lot to do with this. If you look through some of my class blogs you will see posts about this learning.

I have learned so much through blogging - it has been incredible!

Best,
Anne

Hi Sheryl,

Thank you for your kind words! You will love the world of blogging. There are so many possibilities! I am putting the project together now for this year. I will be blogging about it on a separate blog and working with an entire fifth grade class. I am plowing through the teacher's lesson plans from last year to see how to adapt some sessions for blogging.

If you go through my past projects you can see how I conducted the classes and kind of get a feel for the process. The discussions you have with the kids are the most important part - I've found that they will have the answers for many of your questions. It is a great way for us to learn right along with the students.

Please feel free to email me at adavis@gsu.edu if you have further questions.

Best,
Anne

Hi Anne,
how do you assess the blog writing of your students if each student has their own blog? That is, do you go and read each and every blog entry?

If so, how often do you assign homework that involves writing a blog entry?

Anne,
I have been following your blog and would love to get more information about your lesson plans and curriculum mapping that you mentioned. I am a computer facilitator in an elementary school in Anderson, SC and I could really use some new ideas to encourage my teachers to branch out with new things that are curriculum based. I attended the Discovery Southeast Seminar this summer and was very excited about the things we learned about digital storytelling, blogs, and podcasts. I have worked with Dr. Wiggins at UGA and his entire staff was so very helpful. It seems that Georgia is the place to be for the use of integrating technology in the classroom!

Thanks for your time!
