A blog for children about life in Japan
I received a nice email from Elizabeth Chikamatsu who has started a children’s blog about life in Japan. It’s called here and there Japan. She asked for suggestions on how to let teachers know about it. I am posting it here. If you have other suggestions for her please post them here in a comment.
This is an up-close and very visually appealing blog that children would enjoy. Hmmmm…. let’s get our kids teaching others about life in our respective states. Blogs and possibilities once again - isn’t it great?

I just looked over the Chikamatsu’s blog and I really enjoyed it. The pictures are wonderful along with the descriptions that go along with it. This would be a great way to get students to learn more about other countries that would allow them to even converse with one another along the way! I to think this site is great as well!

It is a great blog! In my emails with the author, she suggested that it would be great if more Here and There blogs were created- like Here and There Georgia, Here and There (any place)! I agree! Maybe you might add some to the pool! Maybe I will!
Thank you for your nice comments!

I appreciate Ms. Chikamutsu’s effort to share a cultural experience with others. I believe that the more we can expose young children to other cultures, the better they will understand their own culture. In this day and age- it is essential! I am going overseas to teach in Belfast in a month for this very reason. i look forward to bringing Ireland to life for my students, and making it a personal experience. I

I have been researching blogs across the content areas to show teachers in my district how they can be used for educational purposes. Often, primary level teachers feel that their ability to use and apply technology in the classroom is limited due to the level of their students. This website is a perfect example of how a blog could be used as an instructional tool to provide authentic, meaningful experiences to students of any age. I will certainly be including this blog in my presentations.
